bonnie Rice

a wife, a mom, a daughter, a community partner, and a fierce advocate

Bonnie Rice has been providing direct services to adult and child victims of human trafficking since 2011, first as a foster parent and later as a certified advocate. In 2016, Bonnie became a certified victim’s advocate for victims of sexual assault. In 2017, she obtained certification as a victim’s advocate for human trafficking victims and expanded her certifications to include victims of domestic violence in 2018. In conjunction with obtaining and maintaining these certifications, she has attended trainings provided by federal, state and local law enforcement and community organizations. In addition to her advocacy work with victims of sexual violence, Bonnie has worked as a volunteer and community partner to the undocumented immigrant population since the late 1990’s.

In 2018, Bonnie returned to full-time education and obtained a master’s degree in sociology from New Mexico State University (NMSU), graduating with honors in Dec. of 2020. The focus of Bonnie’s coursework while enrolled at NMSU was on immigration and its impact on communities across the United States as well as the intersection of trafficking and illegal immigration.
In 2021 and 2022, Bonnie worked at an Emergency Intake Facility and a Permanent Shelter for unaccompanied migrant children, witnessing first-hand the widespread nature of trafficking in this population. Bonnie is considered by many in the sexual violence responder and service provider space as a subject matter expert on human trafficking and immigration.

A seasoned presenter and trainer, with multiple conference presentations and countless hours training advocates, Bonnie believes that education is one of the best tools we have to end the plagues of human trafficking and violence that are so prevalent in our communities today.
